Wave Contact Lenses:
Wave Contact Lenses
Contact Lenses are a popular form of vision correction, but sometimes people have a difficult time tolerating contact lenses or have complex eyes that make fitting lenses difficult. Dr. Jason Jedlicka has been the director of contact lens services for the University of Minnesota Medical School for more than 5 years, and is one of the most experienced contact lens fitters in the region. Some of the special lens services offered include:
Wave Contact Lenses are custom designed from your corneal “fingerprint”. Wave’s special video camera and software digitally maps your cornea with thousands of numbers. You doctor uses the map data and Wave’s special design software to create a custom lens that follows almost every tiny shape on your cornea. In the width of a hair, there may be as many as 10 distinct curves on the back of the lens. With so many curves, Wave lenses offer unrivaled comfort and sharper optics. Many unsuccessful contact lens wearers are successful Wave lens users. Wave Designs are available in:
- Single Vision
- Bifocal
- Astigmatism
- Keratoconus
- Orthokeratology
CRT (Corneal Refractive Therapy) or Ortho-K
Now you can be free of daytime contact lenses and glasses during your daily activities without undergoing surgery and enjoy great vision! Recent clinical research combined with the latest corneal surface mapping technology, computerized manufacturing and space age oxygen-breathing materials have brought new science to corneal reshaping.
Corneal Refractive Therapy is a non-surgical process clinically developed to reshape the cornea while you sleep. The result is the temporary correction of myopia with or without moderate astigmatism.
Similar in appearance to standard contact lenses, Paragon CRT therapeutic lenses gently reshape the corneal surface during sleep and provide clear, natural vision when the lenses are removed upon waking.
Because Paragon CRT offers freedom from glasses and the hassle of wearing contact lenses during the day, this leading-edge technology can enhance the lifestyle of those requiring vision correction. Active individuals can freely participate in sports without the interference of glasses or bother of contacts. Eye irritation or dryness, sometimes associated with contact lens wear due to outside dust and pollutants, is eliminated.
Specialty Contact Lenses
Some eyes have very special needs. Because of eye diseases, injuries or infections, corneas can become damaged and cause severe vision loss. Often this vision loss can only be restored with a very complex contact lens.
Corneoscleral lenses are large lenses with can fit very irregular eyes due to their size. Their size also allows them to be more comfortable than many smaller, rigid lenses. Dr. Jedlicka is a consultant to the contact lens industry and is working to develop new designs and improve current designs to optimize success for people needing these lenses.
Scleral lenses are even larger lenses, and are used to rehabilitate the most complex or difficult eyes. These lenses “vault” over the cornea to allow the lens to fit without irritating a sensitive eye and restore vision to the most distorted eyes. These lenses are fitted by only a handful of clinics in the US. At Consultative Eye Care, we are working with every possible lens design available to allow optimal fitting for any situation.
